El entorno de la fuente de Rubena, pequeña localidad del alfoz de Burgos, es un espacio heredado vinculado a las formas de vida del pasado. En él se encuentran un potro y un lavadero, y nace un arroyo que atraviesa el núcleo llevando agua a un conjunto de huertas, definiendo al tiempo el camino de acceso a ellas. La utilización del espacio era inviable en muchas ocasiones debido a la falta de drenaje del terreno en el entorno de la fuente y al crecimiento de la maleza en el camino junto al arroyo.
Se propone una aproximación al proyecto desde la perspectiva de la incorporación de un fragmento de paisaje natural al núcleo urbano. La intervención potencia los valores paisajísticos de un entorno próximo a un pequeño núcleo urbano y lo transforma con medios reducidos en parque vinculado al conjunto edificado y conectado con su trama. Diversos niveles de lectura de la historia del lugar debían ser puestos en valor para hacerlos visibles. La reflexión previa al proyecto se centra más en los aspectos históricos y sociales que en los materiales, pues el objetivo es comprender la esencia del lugar. Con este nivel de conocimiento se puede dar una respuesta eficaz para las necesidades actuales de la población. Si existe aceptación social, el espacio volverá a recuperar un uso y la intervención será sostenible.
La actuación recupera elementos, controla la vegetación y trata sutilmente el plano del suelo para favorecer su accesibilidad. Con un tratamiento de mínima intervención se ha remarcado la estructura existente asociada al curso del agua: fuente, lavadero y cauce. El borde del arroyo se ha transformado en un lugar para uso público creando un paseo con tratamiento paisajístico: piezas longitudinales de hormigón en el suelo para facilitar su accesibilidad y mantenimiento, y un tratamiento de gaviones de caliza blanca que subrayan el trazado del agua y son a la vez una invitación al descanso. Se interviene también recuperando el antiguo potro y matizando la imagen de la construcción que alberga la fuente.

The environment of the fountain of Rubena, a small village near Burgos, is a place linked to inherited forms of life in the past. It contains a potro (horseshoeing structure) and a washing shed, and the birth of a stream running through the center carrying water to a set of gardens, while defining the way of access. The use of space was not feasible in many cases due to lack of soil drainage in the vicinity of the fountain and the growth of weeds in the path along the stream.
We propose an approach to the project from the perspective of the incorporation of a piece of natural landscape to the urban core. The intervention enhances the landscape values of an environment near a small town and turns it into a park with reduced resources connected to the urban fabric. Different levels of reading the history of the place should be put in value to make them visible. Reflection prior to the project focuses more on the historical and social aspects than in materials, for the aim is to understand the essence of the place. With this level of knowledge it is possible to provide an effective response to the current needs of the population. If there is social acceptance, the area will recover a use and the intervention will be sustainable.
The work recovers elements, controls vegetation and treats subtly the ground level to promote accessibility. A minimal intervention treatment has highlighted the existing structure associated with the course of water: fountain, washing shed and river bed. The edge of the creek has become a place for public use, creating a promenade with landscaping treatment: longitudinal pieces of concrete on the floor for easy accessibility and maintenance, and treatment of white limestone gabions highlight the route of the water and are at the same time an invitation to rest. It also involved recovering the old potro and clarifying the image of the building that houses the fountain.
